A Little About Me.

This is a chance to speak about myself and I am left with where to start. I guess with anything you start from the beginning. I was born in the frozen arctic, Inuvik, Northwest Territories in 1977. My parents, both teachers, moved up there looking for adventure.
My upbringing included multiple moves across the north to many communities as they followed work. I have fond memories of each community and its proximity to the outdoors. My parents, both avid outdoor fans, instilled a love for the vast wild in me from a young age.
In 1989 I moved to Yellowknife, NWT at the age of 11. Yellowknife was a move to "The Big City" for me (population is only 20,000) and exposed my to a lot of different opportunities and activities. Even though the community was bigger, I was still close to the outdoors and enjoyed many activities in it. Scouting, skiing, camping, canoeing and kayaking became a part of my upbringing.

After high school I spent a year in Halifax at Dalhousie University pursuing a degree in Marine Biology, then found my calling at the University of Calgary in 1996. I enrolled in the faculty of Kinesiology where I majored in Outdoor Pursuits (think outdoor guiding and leadership). I had a very memorable four years that pushed me in so many ways and built strong skills for life and travel in the outdoors.
After finishing my degree in 2000, I spent a year working in Calgary for an outdoor guiding outfit and working in outdoor retail.
I then returned to the Yellowknife in 2001. I ended being hired as an intern for the Government of the NWT in the Sport and Recreation Department. The experience gave me the opportunity to travel around the North and meet many people interested in promoting the benefits of sport and recreation. It also introduced me to my wife.

My wife hailed from Saskatchewan and was up north for summer work. After a summer of dating, we did the long distance relationship for a year. There was a lot of travel as my wife worked on finishing her undergrad in Education. This then followed with my wife deciding to travel to New Zealand to complete her practicum teaching experience and I decided to follow her there. I wasn't going to let an opportunity to travel pass by, nor did we want to be apart for that long. I luckily was able to work out a remote contract with work at the NWT Recreation and Parks Association, so I could still make a little money halfway around the world. It was my first experience with a remote office work.

After 6 months of travel I returned Saskatoon for a short time searching for work in Sport and Recreation. After a few months with little success, I returned to Yellowknife to continue to work in sport and recreation. I assisted the Northwest Territories Recreation and Park Association and Sport North with different athlete and active living programs over the next couple of months before I decided to make the move to Saskatchewan and return to school to get a degree in teaching at the University of Saskatchewan.

I got married in 2006 and finished my degree in Middle Years teaching in 2008. I have since been teaching grade 7 in Prince Albert for the past 9 years.

We welcomed our first child, my wonderful son, in 2009 and soon our family was blessed with two beautiful daughters in 2011 and 2013. Becoming parents has been a life-changing and enriching journey, if not a very busy one at times.

In 2016, I decided to continue my education and enrolled in the Master of Educational Technology and Design Program at the University of Saskatchewan.
This website has been designed as a portfolio of my experience within the Educational Technology and Design program, highlighting the courses and projects undertaken. Please feel free to review the courses listed in the pulldown menu to get an overview of the program, and my journey through it.

Hope you enjoy the journey!
