ETAD 873 - Instructional Design

Instructional

Design

The Instructional design course was another course I was really looking forward to taking. I was interested in the actual design and delivery of school courses online.  I was interested to see the process of taking an idea and seeing it turned into a course. This course was also taught by Dr. Marguerite Koole and she provided a detailed explanation of the history of design. the steps required in developing a course which includes: analysis and assessment, instructional strategies, implementation, management of courses and finally evaluation of programs. The textbook for the class is Instructional Design - Third Edition by Patricia L. Smith and Tillman J. Ragan - which was a great "how to" manual. The major assignment for this course was the development of your own instructional design proposal. It was broken into 4 parts: Front-End Analysis, Task / Content Analysis, Prototype Design and finally Project Evaluation. The end result was a marketable proposal that could be utilized within your current or future employment. For this course I decided to focus on grade 7 mathematics and the unit on Fractions, Decimals and Percents. Below are the sections of my final assignment:

Part 1 - Front End Analysis:

                                               Part 2  - Task / Content Analysis:

                                               Part 3 - Prototype Design:

                                               Part 4 - Project Evaluation:

To conclude our course we wrote the only exam that I ever taken my masters program. I was a bit nervous about this exam as I had gotten into the comfortable habit of writing papers and designing projects. In the end the exam was thorough but manageable and with it's completion I had officially completed all the requirements for my Masters of Educational Technology and Design!
